Panchakarma - Detoxification, literally means five detox processes, which is a transformative ayurvedic therapy to remove toxins and to restore natural constitution.

Panchakarma is administered for detoxification and rejuvenation. This five-fold purification therapy aims at correcting the imbalance of the doshas - Vata, Pitta, Kapha in order to maintain their inherent equilibrium. During each change of season, one or more doshas accumulate, which causes an imbalance and makes the body prone to illness. The five cleansing methods are Vamanam, Virechanam, Vasti, Nasyam, and Raktamokshanam.

VAMANAM-Vamanam means medically induced vomiting which cleanses the upper respiratory and digestive tract. This is mainly done in conditions which kapha or doshas in relation with kapha is in imbalance.
VIRECHANAM-Virechanam means medically induced purgation. This is a cleansing method to clean the lower digestive tract. This is mainly done in conditions related to imbalances of Pitha Dosha.
VASTHI-Vasti means medically induced enema. This is mainly done in conditions related to imbalances of Vata Dosha.
NASYAM-means introducing medications through the nasal route. This is the best method of cleansing the head and upper respiratory track.
RAKTAMOKSHANAM-Rakthamokshanam means bloodletting therapy. This is very effective in purifying blood and in curing some skin conditions. Different methods of blood lettingare:-jalaukavacharanam( leech therapy) and siravyadham( vene section).
